Technoculture Research Workshop: Shintaro Miyazaki, “Counter-Algorhythmics as Prefigurative Dance of CommOnism” [ZOOM]
March 18, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
We are excited to announce the first speaker for the Technoculture Research Workshop this year: Shintaro Miyazaki! He will be giving a Zoom talk for us on Friday, March 18 at 10am Buffalo time!
Shintaro Miyazaki is a media scholar and, since October 2020, a (junior)-professor in Digital Media and Computation (tenure-track) at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Musicology and Media Studies, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. He was born in 1980 in then-West Berlin to Japanese classical music percussionists and subsequently raised in Basel, Switzerland. Famous for its art museums, modern music (Paul Sacher), and visits to high schools from composers like Terry Riley, he studied media theory, musicology, and philosophy there and in Berlin.
His talk, “Counter-Algorhythmics as Prefigurative Dance of CommOnism,” will explain his concept of algorhythmics, its more recent transformation into counter-algorhythmics, and what it has to do with dancing and commOnism. It will draw on some forthcoming work for a special issue of the journal Kunstlicht on algo-rhythms; more information can be found here: https://tijdschriftkunstlicht.nl/call-for-papers-algo-rhythms-living-in-and-out-of-sync-with-technology-kunstlicht-vol-43-no-2/
