This artist-guided event will explore Lake Sturgeons’ Guide for Surviving the Anthropocene (LSGFSA), an experimental media artwork created by Anna Scime from nine years of research and fieldwork collaborations with scientists working in biology, geology and ecology. The work consists of a series of short video essays and interrelated multimedia installations that examine history, art, culture, and language through an ecological lens. Observational, reflexive and poetic displays flow together to create a dialogic portrait of the threatened Lake Sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) in their Lake Erie and Lake Ontario ecosystems, while simultaneously examining human beings’ place in these same systems. The artist will present a hybrid talk and fish husbandry workshop, and will otherwise be available for discussion during this event.
Anna Scime is an internationally exhibited media artist based in Buffalo, NY. Though varied in material, style and genre, she most often experiments with moving-image-based work at the intersection of art, technology and science. You can find her on the web at: a–a.org.
