PLASMA: Jenson Leonard
April 5, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
The Department of Media Study’s PLASMA (Performances, Lectures, Screenings of Media Artists) will feature a lecture by Jenson Leonard (@coryintheabyss). The Zoom Meeting ID for the lecture series is 959 5554 2975. Email paigesar@buffalo with PLASMA2021 in the subject line for password.
Jenson Leonard’s practice involves the intersection of poetry, conceptual art, and internet memes. Not unlike the earliest forms of oral poetry, memes transmit our cultural memory. Leonard (@coryintheabyss) scours the web for these preserves…the copies and reproductions of our collective digital id, dragging and dropping(sculpting) his findings into the Adobe Suite to create a bricolage of text and image that call into question notions of identity and empire. In doing so, his art charts an internet psychogeography that questions the sensorial exhaustiveness of audiovisual capitalism. Working within the framework of predictive algorithms and data extractions, Leonard attempts intervention within the infrastructure of social media. For examples of his work, see @coryintheabyss.
As always, PLASMA lectures are free and open to the UB community and the public. Email paigesar@buffalo with PLASMA2021 in the subject line for password and/or additional information.
