Join us for the New Faculty Seminar Series where we will feature the work of new colleagues in the Humanities at UB. By bringing together scholars from a variety of fields, we hope that these seminars will initiate and encourage the development of interdisciplinary conversations.

David Luis Glisch-Sánchez is Assistant Professor of Global Gender & Sexuality Studies. This talk draws upon 32 life-story interviews conducted by Professor Glisch-Sánchez, to date, with LGBTQ-identified Latinxs. Through their life stories, Glisch-Sánchez has observed how Latinx queer people utilize a collection of narrative and linguistic techniques or maneuvers, which he has come to call pained utterances, that provide a means for queer Latinx folks to communicate fully the spectrum of social harm and pain they encounter while simultaneously making meaning of that harm and pain and forwarding a critique of the very power structures that create these events.
