Joining Forces Research Colloquium: Leslie Reagan, “Veterans and Agent Orange – An International Story”

Leslie Reagin, Ph.D., Professor of History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will present:

Veterans and Agent Orange – An International Story 

Professor Reagan will discuss her current research on the history of Agent Orange, one of several herbicides used in then American War in Vietnam, and its consequences for veterans, both American and Vietnamese. She focuses on the international veteran and citizen movements to have the health effects of Agent Orange recognized as disabilities, the representation of disability and gender, and contemporary memory-making about Agent Orange.

Leslie Reagan is Professor of History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with affiliations in Gender and Women’s Studies, Media Studies, and Law. She is the author of When Abortion Was a Crime: Women, Medicine, and Law in the United States, 1867-1973, the “go-to” book on the century when abortion was illegal. It was awarded the James Willard Hurst prize for the best book in socio-legal history. Dr. Reagan has also published the award-winning Dangerous Pregnancies: Mothers, Disabilities, and Abortion in Modern America. She is currently completing her book, Toxic Legacies: Agent Orange in the United States and Vietnam. Reagan appears frequently on NPR and has written for the Washington Post, Slate, and Ms. Magazine. She also serves on the steering committee of her local ACLU.
