International Education Week 2017 Keynote Lecture: “Washington’s Rules: America’s Path to Permanent War”
November 13, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Andrew Bacevich, Professor Emeritus of International Relations and History, Boston University
Andrew Bacevich gives an uncompromising critique of the guiding assumptions that lead America’s foreign policy and military strategy—that America must always have a massive military capable of rapid engagement and that global stability is dependent on America’s military might. Dubbing these assumptions “Washington rules”, Bacevich argues that they are so entrenched that no elected official or policy maker has been able to alter them. These rules have led America to insolvency and perpetual war. Bacevich takes us on a journey into the heart of American doctrine to help us understand who we are as a nation, and where we go from here.
