Film: “Swimming with Lesbians” and panel discussion

Directed by David Marshall, this 2009 documentary follows Buffalo lesbian activist Madeline Davis’ efforts to create and find a home for an LGBTQ historical archive.

In the process, we delve into Davis’ own activist history, and explore some of the stories of Buffalo’s LGBTQ community that inspired the archive in the first place.

Screening will be followed by a panel discussion, featuring:

Madeline Davis – Founder of Madeline Davis GLBT Archives; co-author of Boots of Leather, Slippers of Gold: The History of a Lesbian Community; star of Swimming with Lesbians; Buffalo LGBTQ activist extraordinaire.

Camille Hopkins – Co-founder of Spectrum Transgender Group; first openly trans employee at Buffalo City Hall; participant in Swimming with Lesbians.

Dan DiLandro – College Archivist and Special Collections Librarian at Buffalo State College; curator of
Madeline Davis GLBT Archives.

Adrienne Hill (moderator) – Founding member of Western New York LGBTQ History Project.
