The Department of Anthropology in collaboration with the Department of Africana and American Studies presents an artist talk by Dr. Fileve Tlaloc Palmer.

Dr. Fileve Tlaloc Palmer (she, her, hers) journeys into the plasticity of human identity which constantly evolves through time and space. As a binational and multiracial person, issues of the malleability and adaptability of individuals are deeply personal and intellectually stimulating. Her understanding of our human collective past(s), present(s), and future(s) take on new meanings that her artwork draws on historic moments that involve culture-contact.

Dr. Palmer holds a doctorate in anthropology from Indiana University-Bloomington. Her research focus is on the identity formation of “South African” creole people known as “Coloureds” in KwaZulu-Natal province. She is a former Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar and Fulbright alumni. Dr. Palmer has organized and arranged community photography exhibitions revolving around creole South Africans as well as Haudenosaunee peoples in addition to building on the artistic traditions invoking her familial connections, traditions and research interests.
