2022-23 HI Faculty Grant Writing Workshop

September 2, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

REGISTER NOW

Registration deadline: Tuesday, August 30, 2022

On Friday September 2, the Humanities Institute will host our faculty grant writing workshop in support of applications to external humanities based grants and fellowships.

HI’s Grant Writing Workshop is specifically designed to help faculty improve grant and fellowship applications to organizations outside of UB by exchanging drafts and ideas with other grant seekers, in addition to learning grant writing strategies from our guest presenters. Workshop participants are welcome to circulate draft proposals at any stage, from preliminary sketches to finalized applications. Drafts will be requested a few days before the event so workshop participants can take time to read and prepare peer advice.

Click here to register. You can upload a draft application via the web form or email it separately to huminst@buffalo.edu

GUEST PRESENTERS:

Vasiliki Neofotistos, Associate Professor of Anthropology

**Awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities grant (2021-2022) from the Dialogues on the Experience of War program. Project titled “Developing a Sense of Meaningful Belonging Among Veterans.” Project Director (with Co Project Directors Drs. Lisa Butler and Bonnie Vest).

Gerald Koudelka, Sr. Associate Dean for Research & Sponsored Projects, Prof. of Biological Sciences

**Presentation: “De-Mystifying the Grant Application Process”

After the presentations and a brief Q&A session, lunch will be served. Subsequently, we will move on to the workshop portion of the event. **Faculty are welcome to attend only the presentation portion of the event.**

 Timeline(s) & Important Dates

The Humanities Institute schedules the grant writing workshop at the outset of the semester so that participants will have time afterward to integrate feedback prior to the late September/early Fall grant application deadlines for a number of prestigious humanities based grants and fellowships, such as the Guggenheim Fellowship, the ACLS Fellowship, the Stanford Humanities Center Fellowship, the AAUW American Fellowship, and Princeton’s Hodder Fellowship among others. This year, Radcliffe Fellowship applications are due September 8. (If you are applying to the Radcliffe and would like someone to peer review your work, please feel free to reach out to the HI and we will arrange a reader for you.)

**PLEASE NOTE: It is recommended that faculty coordinate with UB’s Sponsored Projects Services at least 2 weeks before submitting applications. Your proposal does NOT need to be finished at that time. However, your administrative file via the Click portal must be set up in advance of your application submission. Contact your SPS representative via this link: https://www.buffalo.edu/research/about-us/staff-directory/contact-grant-expert.html to begin the process as many more humanities grants are now part of the Click submission process.

**August 31, 2022: Proposal drafts will be collected and circulated to all workshop participants.

**NEW: late January (date TBD) workshop for spring submissions (no presentations).
