Humanities Institute External Grant Writing Workshop for Faculty

September 9, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Please register by Sept. 1, 2021. REGISTRATION HAS CLOSED FOR THIS EVENT.

On Thursday September 9, the Humanities Institute will host our 2021 faculty grant writing workshop in support of applications to external grants and fellowships.  The HI’s Grant Writing Workshop is specifically designed to help faculty improve grant and fellowship applications to organizations outside of UB by exchanging drafts and ideas with other grant seekers in a peer to peer format, in addition to learning grant-writing strategies from our guest presenters.

Our 2021 guest presenters are:

Gerald Koudelka, Sr. Associate Dean for Research & Sponsored Programs, Professor of Biological Sciences

**Presentation: “De-mystifying the Grant Application Process”

Theresa McCarthy, Interim Chair & Associate Professor Indigenous Studies, Associate Dean for Inclusive Excellence

**Presentation: the $3.174 million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in 2020 in support of UB’s new Department of Indigenous Studies.

After the presentations and a brief Q&A session, a boxed lunch will be served. Subsequently, we will move on to the workshop portion of the event which, weather permitting, will be held outside.

**Please note: Faculty are welcome to attend only the presentation portion of the event to learn about UB resources in support of current and future grants to which they hope to apply.**

Workshop participants are welcome to circulate draft proposals at any stage, from preliminary sketches to finalized applications. Please send a draft of your work to the Humanities Institute no later than Monday Sep 6 to circulate to workshop participants so they can take time to read and prepare peer advice. Drafts can be uploaded via the online registration form (if ready at the time of registering) or if your draft is not ready for sharing, please email to huminst@buffalo.edu no later than Monday, Sept. 6

SCHEDULE:

Presentations: 12:00 – 12:45 pm

Lunch: 12:45 – 1:00 pm

Workshop: 1:00 – 3:00 pm

The Humanities Institute schedules the grant writing workshop at the outset of the semester so that participants will have time afterward to integrate workshop feedback prior to the late September/early Fall deadlines for a number of prestigious grants and fellowships, such as the Guggenheim Fellowship, the ACLS Fellowship, the Stanford Humanities Center Fellowship, the AAUW American Fellowship, and Princeton’s Hodder Fellowship among others.

Please note that Radcliffe Fellowship applications are due September 9. If you are applying and would like someone to peer review your work, please feel free to reach out to the HI and we will arrange a reader for you.

If you have any questions, please contact Exec. Director Christina Milletti at milletti@buffalo.edu.
