Humanities to the Rescue – 2018
An Evening with Margaret Atwood | Friday, March 9
This four day event opens on Friday, March 9 (8:00 pm) with “An Evening with Margaret Atwood” (2017-18 Eileen Silvers Visiting Professor in the Humanities) and continues through the weekend (March 10-12) with an environmental film festival curated by UB Professor of History Adam Rome. The environmental theme is a continuation of the 2017 Buffalo Humanities Festival: Environments.
One of the remarkable achievements of Margaret Atwood’s speculative fiction, from her 1985 The Handmaid’s Tale to her recent MaddAddam trilogy, is its efficacy as diagnosis, jeremiad, and elegy. Her dystopian visions have the power to move readers from willful ignorance or despair to self-reflection, understanding, hope and action.

Student tickets are available for purchase at the UB Center for the Arts Box Office; no online sales.
