City and Society
Faculty Coordinators: Sharmistha Bagchi-Sen (Geography), Nicholas Lustig (Geography), Carl Nightingale (Transnational Studies)
Urban Studies is among the most interdisciplinary fields in the humanities. UB has a large concentration of Urban Studies scholars that are spread across many disciplinary departments and professional schools. We have created a forum that brings these scholars together for regular meetings. And we have provided a link between faculty and graduate students based on the North Campus with the longstanding Center for Urban Studies housed in the UB School of Architecture and Planning, as well as members of Buffalo’s own rich community of activists and urban planning professionals. The “City and Society” workshop explores urban theory, the politics of urban space, urban institutions, and urban practices across time and throughout the world. This workshop has been in existence since Fall 2015.
